Who We Are

Youth Ministry at First Baptist Church of New Bern is more than young people having fun (although we try to do a lot of that!). Rather we seek to make a difference in the lives of students, grades 6-12. We see it as our goal:

To build a sense of community among our youth - a community which shares a faith in Jesus Christ and a heritage built by Baptists. To help youth better understand the call of Christ...to join them in the journey of faith through conversion and to disciple them as to what it means to be a Christian and a Baptist. To assist parents in raising their children through the teenage years by encouraging, supporting, teaching and fellowship. To help our youth learn to play and have fun in a way that is productive physically, emotionally and spiritually.

We try to bring these goals to life through a number of opportunities.

Sunday School classes give youth an opportunity for Bible Study with others their own age. Classes are broken down into Middle School and High School.

Middle School Devotions is the time for students to meet together for fellowship and learning.  This time takes place on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 PM in the youth lounge.

Bo-votions is a weekly devotional for high school students which takes place at the Bojangle's restaurant next to New Bern High School.  We meet each Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM except when school is out.

Youth Choir meets for rehearsal on Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM.

Snack Supper offers the youth a break and a meal together each Sunday night.  Youth gather in the Family Life Center for this meal at 5:50 PM each Sunday.

Discipleship Training is a weekly time for Bible Study and application.  Local missions opportunities and special fellowships are also planned for the youth during this weekly 6:10 PM gathering on Sunday nights.

Missions is an important part of the Youth Program at FBC. Each summer our youth take a week-long summer mission trip. During this past year we went to Jefferson City, Tennessee to help rehab homes for two separate families. There are also local mission opportunities throughout the year.

There are special events during the year that provide opportunities for spiritual growth. Fall Retreats at Caswell for the Middle School youth and in Myrtle Beach for our High School youth give everyone a chance to get away for a weekend to experience fellowship and spiritual growth. Ski retreats give our youth an opportunity to learn a new skill, have a great time and grow in their faith. There are also fellowships, banquets, river parties, and a host of other opportunities throughout the year.

Everyone is invited to be a part of our Youth Ministry, as a student, a parent or a volunteer. If we can answer any questions, please contact our youth minister at richard@fbchurch.com
